FREE SPEECH ZONE

The Sunnyvale Art & Wine Festival Free Speech Zone provides a designated space for community outreach, public expression, advocacy, and informational engagement during one of Silicon Valley’s largest annual festivals. Located within the event footprint in downtown Sunnyvale, the area supports open dialogue while helping maintain a safe and organized festival environment for attendees, artists, vendors, and participants.

RULES AND GUIDELINES

  • All non-profit organizations and free speech participants must be pre-approved by festival management and assigned a designated space. Organizations or groups without an assigned space will not be permitted to participate.

  • Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • This area is reserved exclusively for approved non-profit organizations, community groups, and free speech activities. Commercial sales, product promotion, and for-profit business activities are not permitted.

  • Participants must remain within their assigned 10’x10’ space at all times and may not obstruct walkways, neighboring spaces, emergency access routes, or festival operations.

  • Pop-up tents are permitted within the assigned space; however, all tents, displays, and equipment must be properly secured and weighted at all times. Stakes may not be driven into the ground.

  • No generators, amplified sound, microphones, speakers, music, or other sound-producing equipment are permitted in this area.

  • No food, beverages, alcohol, or consumable products may be distributed, sampled, or sold due to health department regulations unless specifically approved in writing by festival management.

  • Approved participants may not sublet, transfer, assign, or share their space with another organization, group, or individual without prior written approval from festival management.

  • Participants are responsible for keeping their area clean and orderly during and after the event. All trash, signage, and materials must be removed at the conclusion of the festival.

  • Participants are responsible for their own property, equipment, materials, and personal belongings. The festival, event producers, sponsors, property owners, and the City of Sunnyvale are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.

  • Participants must conduct themselves in a respectful and non-threatening manner toward attendees, vendors, artists, staff, volunteers, and other participants. Harassment, intimidation, blocking access, or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

  • Distribution of literature, signage, and displays must remain within the assigned space and may not be attached to public infrastructure, trees, light poles, benches, fences, or festival equipment.

  • Festival management reserves the right to remove any participant or display that violates festival rules, creates a safety concern, interferes with festival operations, or fails to comply with directions from event staff, security personnel, or public safety officials.

  • Participation in the Non-Profit & Free Speech Zone constitutes agreement to abide by all festival rules, local laws, and applicable city regulations.
